Since I launched a couple weeks ago, I've met a ton of great authors in just about every conceivable genre. Since My Book Sucks is a site dedicated to indie authors, I figured I'd start a regular feature, putting one author under the spotlight and learning a bit about their process, their work, and author story.
So, welcome everyone to the very first AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT, featuring my new online friend, horror author, Devore.
MY BOOK SUCKS: What genre do you usually write in, and why? Do you also primarily read in that genre? If not, then what genre do you usually read?
DEVORE: My absolute favorite genre to write in is horror, but I certainly like to dabble in crime and mystery. Horror seems to be my forte because I enjoy crafting the perfect scene or story that will have a reader's pulse racing. I am am a literary omnivore, but the raw prose that Stephen King offers with his storytelling has not only entranced, but influenced me over the years.
Where do you get your ideas from?
My ideas primarily come from dreams I may have, or in the case of "A White Night, 1865" inspired by an old story by Washington Irving.
Tell us about your writing process? Where do you write? How often do you write? Do you listen to music? Etc?
When I sit down to write, I usually have one or two scenes playing in my head, waiting to be brought to life by pen and pad. One of my 'quirks', I suppose, is that I simply cannot begin a story without a working title. I must first write the title, and somehow that one act is like the key to the ignition.
What are your writing goals for this year?
My goals for this year are to complete the second installment of the O'Hayle Creek series, "A Winter Hanging", which also leads up to a larger future story. I love the idea of connected stories.
